Sixteen years after the first New Moon message went out from Saba, Para PachaMama ~ Spirit of Earth opens its doors again, and this time the invitation is the simplest it has ever been. Become a Trustee for Planet Earth, meet her first through the watery mirror of your own heart, and then write to her.
The Letters to Mother Earth stand beside the Rights of Mother Earth on purpose. In these years the law of the world has begun to recognise what the network carried from its first year: a river with its own life in Aotearoa, a right to a healthy Earth at the United Nations, Ecocide given its words and carried to the door of the International Criminal Court, and the World Court finding that the nations owe the climate their care. Every one of those steps began as a feeling in someone’s heart, and a letter is where that feeling first finds its words.
Write a love letter, a covenant, a letter of grief and release, an intentional sharing or a heartfelt commitment. Keep it private, or let it join the living library, signed with your name or simply as A Trustee for Planet Earth. Nothing is asked of you but your honesty, and nothing is sent back but the knowing that you have been heard.
In February 2012 the network shared a call for Love Letters to the Earth, and now, all these years later, the letters begin.
